About CARL's KITCHEN

THE INSPIRATIONOver the years I have been extremely fortunate to have played with many wonderful musicians. More recently, I have had the opportunity to spend time and play music with a particular group of friends on a more regular basis. It was during this time that I thought about bringing some of these talented people, from varying accoustic styles, together to perform for others who would otherwise not have the opportunity to hear them play together. The event was put together.....without a name.Days leading up to the event, Dave DeVries and I went over to Suzie Sweetman's home to run some songs by her. It was here that I had mentioned that everyone performing in the event had played at one time or another in my kitchen. Suzie then through out the name "Carl's Ktichen Party".....a name that could not have been more fitting. The rest they say is history.With an overwhelming reception, we have decided to do it again...........

DEVRIES DAVE DEVRIESDave and I have known each other for a number of years. Many times we talked about playing together. Recently, those talks came to fruition as we are now musical partners with the band Southern Divide. Dave comes from a strong muscial family background. He is currently a member of the Air Force recently home from service in Afganistan.He has recorded his own projects and is a talented singer-songwriter.Dave hails from CFB Borden.

SWEETMAN

SUZIE SWEETMANI first met Suzie ten years ago. Some time passed following that first meeting but our paths crossed once again five years ago. Since that time, we have played together off and on over the years. Suzie has recorded with a number of artists and has recorded on her own. I consider her one of Canada's best kept secrets as a singer and song writer. Suzie hails from Dundas, Ontario.

CLARK

JOE CLARKJoe and I met four years ago when he moved from Virginia to Hamilton, Ontario. Joe has played with some of the biggest bluegrass artists around. Artists such as Larry Sparks and Honi Deaton.Joe is one of the finest multi-insrumentalists in bluegrass music today. The US's loss is surely a Canadian gain!Joe resides in Caledonia, Ontario.

NEMI MARNIE NIEMIMarnie and I met two years ago, while she was playing for the band Foxtail. Not only is she blessed with a beautiful voice, she is also a symphony trained flutist. I knew when I heard her that she and Dave would be an outstanding musical duo. Marnie is a talent that must be heard.Marnie resides in Toronto, Ontario.

FRAME JOHNNY FRAMEApproximately five years ago Johnny and I met through a mutual friend, Suzie Sweetman. The two had been signing together as duo for years. I thought they sounded wonderful and that they would make a great addition to the Kitchen Party. Johnny is an accomplished guitar player and singer.Johnny hails from Smithvale, Ontario

Page 9 JP ReimansI have known JP for approximately five years. Many know JP as part owner of Grant Ave Recording Studio. JP has been performaing all his life and records all of his own material. A documentary was created about JP called the Tobacco Trubador.JP hails from Harley, Ontario.

MACDONALD TIM MCDONALDI have known Tim for at least 25 years. We met when Tim was playing with his three cousins in "The McDonald Bluegrass Band". What struck me was that Tim was, and is still, a wonderful banjo player and song writer. Tim also plays bass and guitar and is noted for his bass singing.Tim resides in Burlington, Ontario.

LEGERE RAY LEGEREI have known Ray since he was a teenager. We met when he first played with a band called Mountain Meadow in New Brunswick. I could not believe how accomplished he was at such a young age. We formed a friendship over the years and have played together on a number of recordings. Ray is a world renowned fiddle/mandolin player who performs on his own or may be found playing along side John McDermott , Eamonn Dillon , Cape Bretons Brakin' Tradition , Rita MacNeil, Mike O'Reilly/ Dick Smith Band, The Canadian Grass Unit (with Pickin' Partner Frank Doody) and "Bowfire" .

WATERLOO WELLINGTON BLUEGRASS CLUB - Glenn George"What can you say other than WOW what a geat show! Thats what people received who went to Carls Kitchen Party on Saturday, Apr. 24th at the Registry Theatre in Downtown Kitchener. Flanked by outstanding musicians, Ray Legere, Joe Clark, Suzie Sweetman, Dave Devries, Marnie Niemi J.P. Riemans and Tim McDonald, Carl Goodman put on a show that has never before been seen or heard in this area. The show that played for over 3 hours with a brief 30 minute break moved effortlessly along from hard driving bluegrass numbers to folk inspired melodies from a this incredible cast of talent. Although there were many highlights throughout the evening, one of the most exceptional pieces of musicianship occurred when Canadian fiddling sensation Ray Legere put down his fiddle and picked up the mandolin and joined Joe Clark in a rousing rendition of John Henry. The two men blew through smoking hot leads and breaks each one trying to out do the other. In the end, the audience was the clear winner!"
